Captain
Description
The rank of Captain (O-6) is reserved exclusively for the Commander, Air Wing (CAG) and Deputy Commander, Air Wing (DCAG) within VCVW-3.Officers holding this rank are responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and execution of all air wing operations. They establish standards, oversee training and readiness, and ensure the unit operates as a cohesive and effective force.
As the senior-most leadership within VCVW-3, Captains represent the final authority on all operational and administrative matters.
Prerequisites
- Appointment as CAG or DCAG
- Extensive leadership experience within VCVW-3
- Advanced qualification (e.g., ACTC L4/L5 or equivalent)
- Demonstrated ability to lead at the air wing level
Commander
Description
The rank of Commander (O-5) is reserved for senior leadership within VCVW-3, primarily serving as Commanding Officers (CO) and Executive Officers (XO) of assigned squadrons.Commanders are responsible for leading their squadrons, maintaining operational readiness, and ensuring pilots meet established training and performance standards. This rank represents a high level of trust, experience, and leadership within the air wing.

Lieutenant Commander
Description
The rank of Lieutenant Commander (O-4) is assigned to experienced and trusted members within VCVW-3 who serve in key leadership and support roles. This includes positions such as Department Heads, Training Officers, and senior pilots within both operational and training squadrons.Lieutenant Commanders play a critical role in maintaining standards, mentoring junior pilots, and supporting squadron leadership in both training and operations.

- Proven reliability and consistency within VCVW-3
- ACTC qualification of L4
- Experience supporting training, operations, or leadership functions

Lieutenant
Description
The rank of Lieutenant (O-3) represents fully qualified pilots within VCVW-3 who are capable of operating independently and contributing effectively to squadron operations.Lieutenants serve as the primary line pilots of the air wing and are expected to maintain proficiency in assigned aircraft, execute mission tasking, and support unit operations in both training and combat environments.

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Description
The rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade (O-2) represents qualified pilots within VCVW-3 who have completed initial training and are capable of operating safely as part of a section.Officers at this level are expected to build experience, improve proficiency in assigned aircraft, and develop the skills required to progress to leadership roles within the air wing.

Ensign
Description
